About this project

On this project for 2 buildings comprising 123 flats, the PALISSAD architectural practice (Paris 13e) wanted to use original metal railings.

The originality of the concept is the result of several choices made by the architect:

curved lines varying from one balcony to another
expanded metal railings with a progressive mesh (progressive pitch to obtain a density that increases from the bottom to the top)

and the MODULIS principle proposed by Afracom.

Expanded metal balustrades are made up of modular elements prefabricated to measure in the factory, including the handrail, and delivered ready to install. They are designed to be installed in an ‘English style’ (to conceal the nosing of the slabs), a technique that emphasises the architectural unity represented by the expanded metal balustrade. They are fixed to the slabs by lag bolts and bolted together.

Made entirely of aluminium, this expanded metal balustrade offers the advantage of reduced weight compared with its steel equivalent. It also complies with safety standards: the sandbag test was positively conclusive.

The anodised surface treatment makes this solution absolutely durable over time.

About the PALISSAD agency:

‘Hervé Cornou and Olivier Jochyms are co-managers and partners in Palissad Architectures. Marie Monrozier joined the partnership in 2017. They work as a team in a spirit of mutual trust with a dozen competent and committed collaborators. To ensure the smooth transmission of information and the efficiency of the project process, the entire agency is organised in an open-plan layout. The agency has surrounded itself with engineers, economists, landscape architects, consultants and graphic designers that it knows well, all highly qualified and efficient. They share our values and objectives, and help us to achieve the very best. Our in-house project and site monitoring and planning methods improve the quality of our work and the service we provide, and enable us to meet our customers' deadlines and target costs as closely as possible. Hervé Cornou and Olivier Jochyms share the pleasure of working together with their team and their customers... A pleasure renewed by the new projects to be designed and built’.
