About this project
To clad the 1914 - 1918 war memorial building, architect Christophe Lab wanted to use a product reminiscent of a chain mail rib. Afracom developed and perfected the technique for producing the special sheet that would become Tubo-Line sheet. Over and above the concept and the search for a productive production method, it was necessary to invent a sufficiently precise and reliable process to be able to produce Tubo-Line sheets with the quality required to ensure accurate connections with perfect alignment of the corrugations.
Tubo-Line is a sheet in which tongues are cut and pressed to form waves distributed alternately forwards and backwards, giving the appearance of a meshed structure. The dimensions and proportions were fine-tuned to achieve the appearance desired by the architect.
The Tubo-Line sheet was produced in 1.2 mm thick aluminium sheet in a format of 1500 mm (width) x 2000 mm (length). For this project, it was processed in alloy 5754 without any further surface treatment.
Tubo-Line sheeting was used for vertical cladding on the façades, horizontal cladding on the underside and curved cladding in the ‘pits’. They were simply screwed together (self-drilling screws).
